Travel content skews young in the popular imagination and increasingly does not in reality. Creators over fifty are among the fastest-growing groups in the field, and for a lot of trips their advice is considerably more useful.

Why the content is different

Different constraints produce different information. Accessibility, walking distances, seat comfort, whether there is a lift, how far the car park is, what the ground underfoot is like. This is information most travel content simply omits, and it matters to far more people than those who need it for mobility reasons.

Longer trips and slower pace. More time in fewer places, which produces genuinely detailed coverage rather than a highlights reel.

Budgets that are real but not shoestring. Advice pitched at comfort and value rather than at the cheapest possible option, which is where most travellers actually sit.

Off-season travel. Not being tied to school holidays means content about places at times of year nobody else covers.

What to look for

Creators who state distances and gradients. Who mention how long a transfer actually took. Who say when something was closed, or when the advertised view was obscured.

That kind of specificity is a reliable signal, and it is not age-specific — it is just more common in content made by people who have been caught out before.

The commercial side

The over-fifty audience has more disposable income and more available time than any other travel demographic, and the industry has been slow to notice. Creators serving it are increasingly well supported by brands that worked this out.

Which is worth knowing when reading: sponsorship is as present here as anywhere, and the same scepticism applies.

Using it in planning

For any trip involving significant walking, altitude, long transfers or complicated logistics, search specifically for coverage aimed at older travellers. The practical detail is usually better.

And for off-season travel, it is frequently the only detailed coverage that exists.
