Kings Canyon National Park
Giant sequoia groves and one of the deepest canyons in North America, managed jointly with Sequoia National Park.
Kings Canyon holds groves of giant sequoia — including General Grant, among the largest trees on Earth — and, beyond them, a canyon that in places is deeper than the Grand Canyon.
The park divides into two quite different experiences. The Grant Grove area is accessible year round and easy to visit. The canyon itself is reached by a road that is closed by snow for much of the year and opens only in late spring.
It is administered together with neighbouring Sequoia National Park, and most visitors treat the two as one destination. The back country beyond the road end is among the wildest in the Sierra Nevada.
